Wrist & Hand Scan

No preparation is needed.

We recommend wearing clothing that allows easy access to the wrist and forearm, and removing jewellery (such as watches/bracelets) before your appointment if possible.

Ultrasound gel will be applied to your skin and the Sonographer will move the probe across the wrist and hand to obtain images. You may be asked to move your wrist or fingers so we can assess tendons and soft tissues more accurately.

A Wrist & Hand Scan can help assess a range of conditions, including:

• Carpal tunnel syndrome
• Trigger finger
• Ganglion cysts
• Tendinosis / tendon inflammation
• Degenerative changes such as arthritis
• Tendon injuries or tears (where visible)
• Soft tissue swelling or inflammation

Ultrasound can assess the median nerve and surrounding structures in the carpal tunnel and may support a diagnosis of carpal tunnel syndrome. In some cases, further testing (such as nerve conduction studies) may be recommended depending on symptoms.

No — ultrasound is safe and non-invasive.

You may feel mild pressure over sensitive areas, but the scan should not be painful.

You will receive a written diagnostic report with your results and next steps:

• No Further Action, or
• Medical Follow-Up Recommended
