Shoulder & Upper Arm Scan

No preparation is required. Please wear loose clothing or a top that allows easy access to your shoulder and upper arm.

Ultrasound gel will be applied to your skin and the Sonographer will move the probe over your shoulder and upper arm to capture images. You may be asked to move your arm into different positions so we can assess the rotator cuff and surrounding structures dynamically.

This scan can help identify a range of conditions, including:

• Rotator cuff injuries or tears
• Subacromial impingement (SAI)
• Bursitis
• Calcific tendinosis
• Tendon inflammation or degeneration
• Joint effusion (fluid in the shoulder)
• Degenerative changes such as arthritis
• Soft tissue inflammation or swelling

Yes — ultrasound is very effective at assessing the rotator cuff tendons and can identify tears, inflammation or degeneration in many cases.

No, ultrasound is a safe and non-invasive procedure. You may feel some pressure over tender areas, but the scan itself is not painful.

No referral is required to book privately. However, if you have concerning symptoms, we recommend discussing them with your GP first.

You will receive a clear written report with your scan findings and your next steps:

• No Further Action, or
• Medical Follow-Up Recommended
