This scan is available for people of 16 years of age.

A kidney and bladder ultrasound, also known as the urinary tract is dedicated scan designed to look at the kidneys, ureters (if visible) and urinary bladder. It can help in the detection of cysts, tumours, renal scarring, abscesses, obstructions, fluid collection, and sometimes infection within or around the kidneys/bladder. The scan can also detect any variation in anatomy such as duplex system or horseshoe kidney.

An ultrasound of your kidneys and bladder maybe use for you if

Concerned about kidney or bladder stones
If you suffer with persistent bladder problems (i.e. cystitis, bladder emptying)
Struggle with persistent UTI’s
Back pain
Presence of blood in the urine
Reassurance

We ask that you drink around 3 glasses of water for this examination at least an hour before your appointment and do not empty your bladder. This is to ensure the bladder is stretched out and can be examined adequately. This is also useful to those who are struggling to empty their bladder as the Sonographer can measure how big your bladder is before and after you have used the toilet.

We ask you wear loose clothing for the examination so the Sonographer can easily access the area required and this will be comfortable for you.

Yes, all of our Sonographers are qualified and registered with the Health Care Profession Council (HCPC) or The register of Clinical Technologists (RCT). Our staff are highly trained with many years of experience. We are also registered with the Care Quality Commission. (CQC).
