Breast Ultrasound

The Sonographer will explain to you the procedure before the examination. You will be asked to take off your upper clothing including your bra, and cover with a gown. A gel will be put on the probe and gently glide on your breast as the sonographer will take images of the desired area of the breast. The sonographer may also check the axilla or armpit for lymph nodes. When the Sonographer has completed their assessment and you will be given a tissue to wipe off the gel and be able to get dressed straight away afterwards. There will always be a chaperone present in the room to offer any assistance.

For lump or implant checks, typically only the breast with the lump or implant concern will be examined. If you require an examination of both breasts, please inform us at the time of booking so that we can schedule a longer appointment.

There is no preparation for breast ultrasound.

No, this test should not be painful. You may feel some pressure or mild discomfort. The Breast ultrasound scan should not take very long and you can ask to stop anytime throughout the examination if you feel you cannot tolerate the scan.

You will receive a clear written report of your scan results, including our recommendation for your next steps. If we recommend a medical follow-up, we can email a copy of your report to your healthcare provider.

Yes, all of our Sonographers are qualified and registered with the Health care Profession Council (HCPC) or The register of Clinical Technologists (RCT). Our staff are highly trained with many years of experience. We are also registered with the Care Quality Commission. (CQC).
