Ankle & Foot Scan

Please wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows easy access to your ankle and foot. This helps the Sonographer get the best possible images during the examination.

Your Sonographer will ask you to expose the area of concern. Ultrasound gel will be applied to your skin and the scanning probe (transducer) gently moved over the ankle and foot. The scan is dynamic — you may be asked to move your foot or flex different positions so we can assess structures like tendons and joints more accurately. The aim is always to maintain your dignity and comfort.

No — diagnostic ultrasound is a painless procedure with no radiation. You may feel mild pressure from the probe, especially if the area is tender, but this should not be painful.a

You will receive a clear written report of your scan results, including our recommendation for your next steps — for example:

• No Further Action, or
• Medical Follow-Up Recommended

If a medical follow-up is recommended, we can email a copy of your report to your GP or healthcare provider (if you provide contact details).

Yes — all of our Sonographers are fully qualified and registered with the relevant UK professional bodies (such as the Health & Care Professions Council or Register of Clinical Technologists) and we are regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
