Cortisol Test

The cortisol blood test measures the level of cortisol, a hormone produced by the adrenal glands that helps regulate metabolism, immune response, and the body’s stress response. Cortisol levels normally vary throughout the day, typically highest in the early morning and lowest at night.

Test involves:

• Evaluate adrenal gland function
• Diagnose conditions such as Cushing’s syndrome (high cortisol) or Addison’s disease (low cortisol)
• Assess causes of fatigue, weight changes, or abnormal blood pressure
• Monitor patients receiving corticosteroid therapy
